Sen. Shimabukuro Passes Bill to Help Domestic Violence Victims Flee During Divorces

SB828 allows domestic violence victims to flee off-island for safety prior to the completion of their divorce. Previously, if a DV victim did not remain on island for 3 months, and in the state for 6 months, HI courts would dismiss their divorces. Here is a link to SB828, which was introduced by Sen. Maile Shimabukuro, and was part of the Legislative Women’s Caucus Package: https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Archives/measure_indiv_Archives.aspx?billtype=SB&billnumber=828&year=2021.
