Na Hoku Hanohano Award winner Darren Benitez will perform at my 10/14/16 “Birthday Bash”! Benitez, who is known for his beautiful falsetto voice and the song “Mother of the Sea,” won a Na Hoku Hanohano Award in 1996 for Most Promising Artist of the Year. He is a proud graduate of Waianae Intermediate and Waianae High School.
Another highlight of my event is the chance to meet Cedric Gates, who is running as a Democrat for House District 44 (Maili/Waianae/Makaha). Gates co-founded the Active Hawaii Organization, a 501(c)(3) focused on providing nutritional education, physical activities, and community advocacy for the Waianae Coast. He was featured on the cover of Hawaii Business Magazine in May 2015 to highlight his community service and the hardships he has overcome.
