About Senator Shimabukuro
Raised on the Leeward Coast, Senator Maile Shimabukuro currently serves as Chairwoman of the Hawaiian Affairs Committee and sits on the Transportation and Ways and Means committees.
Maile has worked with community activists and organizations to bring millions of dollars of state assistance to Leeward Coast communities for housing, transportation and more jobs.
Maile is part of our community. After graduating from the University of Hawai’i Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law, she came back home to serve her community in the State House and as a legal services attorney handling local family and public benefit cases.
A fighter for our community
As a State Senator with years of experience and connections to our community, Maile has fought for better funding and services.
- More Housing – Just this year, Maile secured almost $1 billion for Hawaiian Homelands funding.
- Traffic Control – Maile secured $31 million to make Farrington Highway and other local roads safer and more efficient.
- Jobs – Maile secured over $40 million for a Wai’anae-owned carbon capture project, bringing jobs to our community.
